Proposed Rail Link to London

Proposed Rail Link to London

Both I and Martin Vickers, MP for Cleethorpes, met with Alliance Rail recently to discuss a new route they are proposing that would link Cleethorpes, Scunthorpe and Thorne South with London.   I raised the possibility of the new service stopping at Barnetby which Alliance said they would seriously look at. They told us they expected that the new service could be ready by as early as 2014 but that it is subject to approval by the rail regulator.   Following on from the meeting I brought this to...

Winterton Junior School Grilling

Winterton Junior School Grilling

I was back again at Winterton Juniors recently to receive a grilling from Year 6 pupils at the school about campaigning. The whole year group are involved in a campaign to improve road safety in the town along with a separate campaign to tackle litter. Having visited just a few weeks ago, the school took me up on the offer to come in again and help out on anything they felt I could be of use on.   Year 6 decided that I may be of use for campaigning tips and so I was subjected to an intense gri...

Singleton Birch, Melton Ross

Singleton Birch, Melton Ross

I meant to blog this ages ago but forgot to! I recently visited Singleton Birch in Melton Ross which is one of the leading lime producers in the UK. Their quarry has been in existance since the early 19th century and the company still retains its four digital original company number. In fact at one time the guy who gave his name to Aston Martin cars acted as Company Director!

The centre opened in 2007 to address a shortage ...

Epworth Halloween and Isle Police Patrol

Epworth Halloween and Isle Police Patrol

I spent Halloween in Epworth at the first Halloween event organised by the Town Centre Partnership that we helped to support the creation of. For a first event it was absolutely cracking and I had a great time, even managing to successfully ride a penny farthing down the street! There was a really good atmosphere on the street and the highlight for me was watching the Street Beat Dance Troop from the Isle performing thriller at dusk. The flickering streetlamps and carved pumpkins made it very ...

Andrew Wants Developers to do More

Andrew Wants Developers to do More

Local MP Andrew Percy has sponsored a bill in Parliament that would change the law to make housing developers pay a bond to ensure that roads and drains on new developments were brought up to a proper standard after construction. The bill would force developers to pay a bond – a sum of money depending on the number of houses built. If they fail to do the work the council would do it on their behalf and claim it back from the bond. Once the land is adopted by the council the remaining money wo...
