On Friday Andrew attended a service at Goole Cenotaph to mark 100 years since the start of the Battle of the Somme. Fighting at the Battle of the Somme began on the 1st July 1916 and lasted for 139 days (four and a half months), until the 18th November 1916. In total, 60 nations from across the British Empire and Europe were involved in the fighting. Andrew recently joined fellow MPs and other guests at the premiere screening of the filmed testimony of Holocaust survivor, Zigi Shipper BEM, in Parliament. The filmed testimony was a project supported by the Holocaust Educational Trust and undertaken by Zigi’s grandson in an effort to record and preserve Zigi’s experiences as a Holocaust survivor. Andrew is supporting the campaign for more specialist IBD nurses after a recent survey conducted by patient charity, Crohn’s and Colitis UK, found that at least 100,000 patients in the UK with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) don’t have access to adequate care.
