Andrew Welcomes the Secretary of State for Education to Goole Academy

Andrew recently welcomed the Secretary of State for Education, the Rt Hon Nicky Morgan MP, to Goole Academy during her visit to officially open the new school buildings.

This multi-million pound investment was made possible through phase one of the government’s Priority School Building Project (PSPB). The Secretary of State also met with pupils and staff at the academy to hear about the positive work being undertaken at the school and was even interviewed by Finlay Lawson, age five, for the school's website!

The Wakefield Academies Trust took over responsibility of Goole Academy in August 2014, with the current principal, Matthew Partington, appointed shortly after. Since then, the school has seen tremendous improvements and Matthew thanked Nicky Morgan for visiting. He went on to praise the Secretary of State and the Department for Education for being “most supportive of what we are doing here, particularly with our changes to post-16 education and the opening of the Centenary College.”

Andrew, who is Chair of Governors at Goole Academy, said “It was great to welcome Nicky to Goole so that she could see the fantastic work going on at Goole Academy. I would like to say a special thanks to the staff and pupils here for all their hard work. The school has turned itself around, with some really impressive results recently.

We all welcomed the school coming out of special measures last November but we want to go even further and I’ll continue to work closely with the school as we progress.”
