Scunthorpe Telegraph Column - April 2016

Scunthorpe Telegraph Column - April 2016

So British Steel is returning! I think we can all agree that the deal announced this weekend between Greybull and Tata is to be welcomed. Whilst there are still some hoops to be gone through before the deal is finalised, it does look as though the site is going to be secured and the high quality steel produced at Scunthorpe will continue. This is of relief to everybody locally, especially to workers and their families who have endured months of uncertainty. Martin Vickers MP and I met with Greyb...

Scunthorpe Steel Update

Scunthorpe Steel Update

A number of people have been asking about the future of Scunthorpe steel works following the recent announcement by Tata on the future of their UK operations. As many of you will be aware, I have been working closely with everyone involved; including Tata, the Council, Ministers and local MPs etc, to support workers and the future of this site. This latest announcement, however, does not relate to Scunthorpe, which Tata had already decided to sell. Ministers have made clear that all options rema...

Flood Re Launches April 2016

Andrew is raising awareness of the new flood insurance scheme, Flood Re, which launches next week. Flood Re, which goes live on April 4th 2016, is not a home insurer itself but will work behind the scenes with existing insurance companies so that people who own and live in properties that are most likely to flood can shop around more easily to find policies with more affordable premiums and excesses. Andrew says, “After a long time, and a lot of work behind the scenes, we are now only one week a...
