Residents may have seen in the media that Pepsi are bidding to buy Pipers Crisps who are based at Elsham. They have been in contact with me to highlight their plans, including their plans to increase production which might be good for local jobs.
Pipers have been a real success story and previously received a grant from the Government to expand production and I am delighted that this investment has seen them go from strength to strength.
I have asked to meet Pepsi face to face but they are unable to do this until all of their plans have been agreed by way of the competition authorities here in the UK.
We are assured production will remain local but I am keen to meet with them ASAP to get all the relevant assurances about this, in particular, I want an assurance that their growth plans for this brand will be based here in North Lincs.
While I am sure many people would prefer to maintain local ownership, this is a matter for the companies involved and the competition authorities. My role as our local MP is to get those assurances and ensure that their growth plans are based here in North Lincs.
I know from my role as the UK Trade Envoy to Canada just how much demand in North America there is for UK snacks and food and drink.
