Brigg-based business ‘SofMat’ have been awarded one of 20 UK funding and support packages by Heathrow and the Department for International Trade’s ‘Exporting is GREAT’ Campaign. This programme encourages SMEs to export their goods or services to new international markets.
Through the ‘World of Opportunity Programme’ Heathrow will provide £40,000 for SME trade missions or research into global markets of their choice. SofMat will also have access to the personalised advice of an International Trade Advisor from the Department of International Trade, and a Plaza Premium lounge as they depart from Heathrow.
SofMat CEO Dr. Philip Harrison said: “SofMat is coming out of its development phase and is expecting take up of the technology by a number of companies in Q4 of 2017. A number of visits are planned to the USA and Switzerland during late-2017 to discuss the use of our technology in several areas, initially targeting the pharmaceutical sector where we can directly mark drugs using a unique code, as well as their packaging, so facilitating full traceability through the supply chain."
Commenting on the award, Brigg MP, Andrew Percy, said: "The UK has some great small businesses who have played their part in helping exports increase by 11.4% over the last year. Great British businesses like SofMat in Brigg benefit hugely from growing their business around the world and reaching new global markets.
"I am delighted that SofMat have been successful in Heathrow’s World of Opportunity Grants programme and I wish the business the greatest success in growing their global exports."
