Andrew Welcomes Funding to Fix Potholes

Andrew has welcomed the announcement that Councils across Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire will receive £1.2 million to tackle potholes on the region’s roads over the next 12 months.

The funding comes from the £250 million Pothole Action Fund created by the Conservative Government, which is estimated to fix over four million potholes by 2020/21.

East Riding Council is expected to receive £690,000 and North Lincolnshire Council is set to receive £318,000. The funding will help repair around 23,000 potholes across our area.

Andrew reports, “With a vast network of mainly rural roads, local residents know better than most the frustration of experiencing potholes. This Government made investing in Britain’s roads and infrastructure a key priority and I’m glad that this money is being made available to local Councils to address this issue.

Our roads are getting used more and more these days and potholes are unsafe for motorists, cyclists and other road users. Residents can report potholes to their local authority and I will continue to work with local residents and Councillors to do all we can to improve our local area.”

Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin said, “I know how important well-maintained roads are to people across the country. Almost every journey starts and ends on a local road, so the government is giving councils £250 million specifically to tackle the blight of potholes in their area.

This is just one part of our unprecedented investment in local road maintenance over the next 5 years. We are giving a record £6 billion to local authorities in England that will improve journeys across the regions.”
