Andrew Supports New Smoking Cessation Counselling Service

Local MP Andrew Percy has written to the local NHS to support the creation of a new smoking cessation service in the Goole and Snaith area. The need has been identified by NHS East Riding of Yorkshire in a Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment consultation document. The Primary Care Trust are required to produce a Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment so as to establish where there is unmet need.

Disabled Toilet Fixed!

Good news on the disabled toilets at Escourt Street in Goole. I've now had a second letter confirming the works that have been completed to improve the toilets for disabled users. The concerns were originally raised by users and supported by Goole Councillor Jean Kitching and Snaith, Airmyn and Rawcliffe Ward Councillor Caroline Fox.

Environment Agency Meeting

I had a fairly long discussion with the Environment Agency on Friday to discuss what seemed to be pretty much every river and flood protection issue in the constituency. In particular we discussed the future of the Isle of Axholme Flood Risk Management Strategy. Following our long campaign, supported by the drainage board, we managed to get the protection policy for the Isle upgraded recently but we still need more assurances.

Andrew Chairs Hospital Meeting

Local MP Andrew Percy chaired a meeting at Goole Hospital last Friday between local campaigners and Councillors, concerned at the loss of beds at Goole Hospital, and Trust officials to discuss the future of services at the hospital. A number of beds at the Hospital have been reduced in recent years and just a couple of years ago the Rivers Ward, caring for elderly mental health patients, was closed altogether.

On Monday I attended the All Party Communications Group which met to discuss Ofcom's recent ruling forcing Sky to allow other pay TV providers to offer Sky Sports 1 & 2 to customers. The event, sponsored by BT, included a discussion between Martin Keown, the former Arsenal & England player, and Spurs striker Peter Crouch.
