I’m glad to take part in the ‘We Remember’ campaign which is an international social media campaign to remember the 6 million victims of the Holocaust.
Holocaust Memorial Day (27th January) marks the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau. On Thursday next week, I will be leading a three hour debate to mark Holocaust Memorial Day in the House of Commons chamber.
I also recently wrote to local schools to inform them of the Holocaust Educational Trust’s Lessons from Auschwitz Project. The Project is an educational programme where students hear from a Holocaust survivor, before participating on a one-day visit to the Nazi concentration and death camp, Auschwitz-Birkenau.
Each year we have fewer and fewer survivors of the Holocaust to provide us with their memories and testimonies. Therefore, it is incredibly important that we remember them, pay respect to those who lost their lives and reflect on the lessons we can all learn from this horrific part of recent history.
