Andrew votes to cut contributions to the EU

At a time when public services are been cut to pay down the appalling levels of debt left by Labour, local MP Andrew Percy refused this week to vote in favour of increasing Britain's contribution to the EU.   In a deal signed by the previous Labour Government, British taxpayers are being asked to send an extra £435 million to the EU next year which includes an increase in the EU's administration budget of 2.5%!   Andrew says, "I was simply not prepared to vote to send more of the hard working ...

School Again - Winterton Juniors

School Again - Winterton Juniors

I just cant keep away! Whilst Labour have been busy in Manchester getting used to a leader they didnt vote for, I have been doing as many visits across the constituency as possible. This morning I visited Winterton Junior School to meet with Headteacher Mrs Logan and to speak to the school assembly.   I had a great time at the assembly talking about what it means to be an MP and I was staggered by just how much they knew about politics. Not only did they know the name of David Cameron, they knew...

Bon Marche Opens in Goole

Bon Marche Opens in Goole

Earlier this week I attended the opening of yet another new store in Goole. This time it was the turn of Bon Marche who have opening up a great store in the precinct. The unit they have moved in to was vacated by Ethel Austin earlier this year and in the intervening period served no purpose except to be a cracking poster site for my election posters!   However, Bon Marche is a much better use for this store and it is great that they have invested in Goole.

Back To School!

Back To School!

I don’t seem to be able to keep away from educational establishments at the moment, it must be withdrawal symptoms at the beginning of term. As well as Goole College last week, I have also been to visit the Vale of Ancholme School in Brigg and Goole High School in recent days.   Both of these schools have done really well in recent years despite being quite different from each other. I’ve done supply teaching in both of them in recent years and so it was nice to be back at school. I have to ad...

Burton Tank Ramp!

Burton Tank Ramp!

Last Saturday I had the pleasure of attending the Burton Heritage Group’s BBQ at the tank ramp on the banks of the Trent. This area was used in World War 2 to develop solutions to crossing the Rhine and there a great deal of secret work went on in and around Burton. Apparently this stretch of the Trent was used because it resembled the Rhine in terms of depth, currents etc.   I had the pleasure to speak to two of the veterans of the work completed here in the war (see photo). One of them was a...

Rural Broadband Bid

Rural Broadband Bid

Local MP Andrew Percy met with representatives of BT and North Lincs Council to discuss possible solutions to the problem of rural broadband. Andrew is supporting a bid by North Lincs Council to be one of three pilot areas which, if successful, would see the Council receive considerable funding to roll-out high speed broadband across North Lincolnshire and as small part of the East Riding of Yorkshire.   Andrew says, “The Coalition Government has provided the funding for these pilot areas and...

Local MP Andrew Percy has called for the protection of rural policing during the eventual restructuring of police organisation. During Home Affairs Questions in the House of Commons Chamber the MP asked the Minister for Policing and Criminal Justice, Nick Herbert, to treat rural policing with as much importance as city centre policing has been in the past. Andrew Percy MP said, “Everybody knows that as a result of the mess in the public finances left by the Labour Government, the Coalition is...
