Brigg and Goole MP, Andrew Percy, and Snaith, Airmyn and Rawcliffe Ward Councillor, Caroline Fox, are urging residents to take up the opportunity for a free home fire safety check by Humberside Fire Brigade who will also fit free smoke alarms if necessary.

Andrew Percy MP said, “I had one of these undertaken in my previous house, but having moved just up the road in Airmyn, I decided to get another one undertaken by the brigade. I would urge residents who haven’t had one of these checks undertaken to do so.

They are completely free and really help put your mind at rest. Firefighters visit your home, identify potential risks and speak to you about what to do if a fire breaks out at home. They will also fit free smoke detectors in your home should you need them.

Many houses still have no proper smoke detectors fitted and this was this case when I moved in. These devices save lives and it is really important that anyone who doesn’t have any fitted home makes sure they take up this free offer. The firefighters fit the required amount and ensure that they are placed in the proper locations.”

Cllr Caroline Fox continues, “I also had one of these undertaken recently and was really impressed by the information the firefighters gave to me. They undertook a full assessment of the house and then fitted the detectors as needed. They also spoke to me about things such as escape routes and offered advice about reducing fire risks. It was really useful and practical advice that has left me feeling much safer in my home.”

Residents in the Goole, Snaith and Howden area should call Goole Fire Station on 01405 752700 or 01724 295900 if they would like to set up a visit.
