Rural Broadband Bid

Broadband_Meeting_Sep10_Goole_1

Local MP Andrew Percy met with representatives of BT and North Lincs Council to discuss possible solutions to the problem of rural broadband. Andrew is supporting a bid by North Lincs Council to be one of three pilot areas which, if successful, would see the Council receive considerable funding to roll-out high speed broadband across North Lincolnshire and as small part of the East Riding of Yorkshire.

Andrew says, “The Coalition Government has provided the funding for these pilot areas and I am supporting the bid put together by North Lincs Council and British Telecom. There is likely to be great interest in this pilot funding and it is important not to put all of our eggs in one basket.

That is why I am delighted that the Council is also looking at accessing other funding streams. I will support them as much as I can and I am pleased that we got round the table today. I want to know more from BT about what local solutions there may be to improve speeds on the network we already have.”
