Goole Town Centre to Receive a Quarter of a Million Pounds of Funding

Goole town centre is set to receive almost £250,000 of funding. This money has been allocated by the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) via funding from the Conservative Government’s Local Growth Fund, which Andrew was responsible for during his time as the Northern Powerhouse Minister. Andrew says, "This is obviously good news but is still relatively limited funding. I am continuing to work with the council and Government departments to access more significant funding for the town centre...

Westminster Hall Debate on the Steel Industry

I spoke in the Steel Industry debate in Parliament yesterday to once again support the efforts to save the Scunthorpe steelworks. Alongside other local MPs, Nic Dakin and Martin Vickers, we again presented a united cross-party voice in support of this vital industry. The Official Receiver, who is the independent person overseeing this process, is presently assessing a short list of bids for the site. The Government cannot mandate his decision on this matter but, separately to this, Government Mi...

Change4Life Campaign to Make Kids More Active

Public Health England have teamed up with Disney and Sport England to launch the Change4Life campaign, the aim of which is to encourage children to become more active. Andrew says, "Along with the obvious health benefits, physical activity can also build children’s self-confidence, reduce anxiety and improve their self-esteem. However, not enough children are meeting the UK Chief Medical Officers recommendation that children do at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity every ...

Opthalmic Department - Goole Hospital

Opthalmic Department - Goole Hospital

Residents may remember my previous posts about the need for a new Biometry machine (use for cataracts etc) at Goole Hospital as one of the machines had broken down. I previously reported how funding had been secured for it's replacement. I met with local NHS managers on Friday and I am pleased to confirm that the new machine for Goole Hospital has now been ordered and should arrive within the next few weeks. This is good news and should ensure full service. The Trust also confirmed to increase a...

Andrew visited Drax Power Station this morning to hear about the innovative work taking place on carbon capture and cutting emissions. Andrew says, "As I mentioned earlier this year, carbon dioxide was captured for the first time using C-Capture technology at Drax Power Station in their BECCS (Bioenergy & Carbon Capture Storage) pilot project. This was the first time anywhere in the world that carbon dioxide had been captured from a 100% biomass feedstock. The BECCS project is now capturing ...
