New Weed Cutter for River Ancholme

New Weed Cutter for River Ancholme

Andrew has welcomed the purchase of a new weed cutter for the River Ancholme to tackle the green weeds that plague the river in the summer months. Andrew says, “I’ve worked hard alongside local Councillors to look at ways to regenerate areas in Brigg as part of our wider vision to encourage more tourism locally. Brigg has a lot to offer and the River Ancholme is already popular with visitors. Only last year, we saw work begin on the River Ancholme cycleway and improvements to the river wall. The...

Flood Re

Flood Re

Today Andrew met with Brendan McCafferty, Chief Executive Officer of Flood Re, to discuss progress with the Flood Re insurance scheme, which is due to launch in April. Flood Re will allow insurance companies to pass on the flood risk element of eligible home insurance policies to Flood Re. Flood Re will then charge the insurers a premium for each policy, based on the property’s council tax band. It’s estimated that Flood Re will be used in home insurance policies, to cover the flood risk element...

Mobile Phone Campaign Latest

Mobile Phone Campaign Latest

Andrew is keeping up the pressure on mobile phone providers as part of his campaign for improved signal coverage locally. Andrew surveyed thousands of residents last year to confirm the signal coverage in the constituency. The results from this survey were provided to each of the four main mobile phone providers – EE, Vodafone, O2 Telefonica and Three – so that they could use this information as part of their improvement plans. All four providers committed to improving signal across the constitu...

Légion d’honneur

Légion d’honneur

Andrew recently presented Winterton resident, Ernest Kitchen, with his Légion d'honneur medal in recognition of his part in the D-Day landings. Ernest, or Ernie as he is often called, was conscripted in October 1943 and chose to serve in the Royal Navy. Ernie trained to be a Sick Berth Attendant and on completion of training was drafted to the Landing Ship Tank LST503 - which were known by their crews as 'Large Stationary Targets'. On the 4th of June 1944, LST503 received her orders and, laden w...

Scunthorpe Steel Site Update

Scunthorpe Steel Site Update

Work is continuing to support the sale of Scunthorpe to the potential buyers Greybull. There is a story in The Times today under a headline stating that the sale has been agreed. This is not yet the case and it is important we don't get too excited yet. The discussions have been progressing well, but there remain important areas still to agree on. Until the deal is signed on the dotted line, there isn't a deal! Last week, myself and other local MPs met with the Minister in charge of the Governme...

East Cowick Defibrillator

East Cowick Defibrillator

Andrew has welcomed the addition of yet another public access defibrillator (PAD) locally, this time in East Cowick. Andrew, who has led a campaign for more public access defibrillators and first-aid training, has worked with Snaith & Cowick Pinderfields Trust to secure this defibrillator. The Trust kindly donated the necessary funding for both the cabinet and defibrillator. This PAD is now available for use and can be found on the side of the Shapla Indian restaurant in East Cowick - which ...

Andrew Calls for Flood Funding Rethink

Andrew Calls for Flood Funding Rethink

Last week, Local MP Andrew Percy spoke in a debate on flooding in the House of Commons to stress the need for a complete rethink of flood defence funding. Andrew has made securing investment in local flood defences a priority and we have seen significant government investment locally, under both the current Government and the previous Conservative-led administration. This has included funding for schemes such as £3 million for embankment works on the Dutch River at Rawcliffe Bridge, £3.2 million...

Andrew Cuts the Ribbon at New Charity Shop

Just before Christmas Andrew officially opened Emmaus Hull and East Riding’s new social enterprise charity shop on Boothferry Road in Goole. Emmaus is a homelessness charity, providing both a home and employment experience through social enterprise. Emmaus Hull and East Riding are using funds generated from the shop to open a residential community space in Hull for those from our area. Andrew says, “It was a pleasure to be asked to open this shop, which will see money raised here being invested ...

Hensall Ings

Hensall Ings

Residents may have seen my updates over the Christmas and New Year period regarding flood warnings and sharing information on flood risk locally. I promised to keep residents updated and I hope that these have been useful. My thoughts are with everyone affected by this recent flooding. The heavy rainfall has understandably caused a lot of concern locally and I received a useful update from the Environment Agency the other day regarding their monitoring and works to the Hensall Ings, which are in...

Andrew's Christmas Message

Andrew's Christmas Message

I would like to wish residents across our area a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Eight months have already passed since the General Election and I would like to thank everyone for their kindness and warmth throughout that period and since. It is a huge privilege to represent our area and I was genuinely touched to be re-elected with so much support locally.  Over the past year I have continued to prioritise local issues; flood defences, rolling out more life-saving public access defib...
