Local MP Andrew Percy has written to the Secretary of State for Health to make him aware of local concerns regarding the loss of beds at Goole Hospital. Although the decision to reduce bed numbers is made by the local Hospital Trust and not Government Ministers, the coalition Government has recently announced one of the biggest restructurings of the NHS, aimed at involving local people more in the running of the NHS. Andrew has also secured a meeting with the new Chief Executive of the...

I had forgotten to blog about my recent visit to Goole High School to meet with pupils who had received a Diana, Princess of Wales award for their pioneering anti-bullying mentor scheme. The scheme sees older students buddying up with new and younger students as part of a mentoring scheme. The scheme has been incredibly successful and the young people I spoke to about the scheme really were fantastic. Scooping such an important award is a credit to them and to Goole High School which seem...

The glorious sunshine is making this year's summer fairs and galas an absolute joy to attend. There is nothing like a cream tea in the sunshine surrounded by fantastic local residents. I've been asked to open quite a few of these this year including the Whitgift Chirch fete where I am pictured with the show Queen and her attendants. Whitgift is a beautiful church which is famed for its 13 o' clock that was apparently used as a navigational tool by the Germans in World War 2. It is well wo...

I had a great time at the Winterton Show last Sunday with the weather helping to bring out what looked like record numbers of visitors. I had never seen the show car park so busy! We had our usual stand at the show and I seemed to spend my whole day shaking hands with people who wanted to say well done and congratulations etc. I was surprised how many people had come from other parts of the constituency and I also managed to pick up a lot more casework too. The photo shows me at the Fe...

I managed to fulfil one of my ambitions this week by getting to meet a real life astronaut. The crew of the space shuttle Atlantis visited the House of Commons after completing a tour of UK schools where they have been speaking to try to encourage kids to take an interest in maths and science. The presence of a space shuttle crew on the terrace caused quite a stir, especially as they were in their blue NASA suits. I spent some time chatting with astronaut Garrett Reisman who when questio...

Andrew was successfully awarded a debate on the proposed closure, the first such debate on the proposals to close 103 courts across England and Wales. Andrew teamed up with neighbouring Selby MP Nigel Adams, who is fighting the proposed closure of Selby Magistrates, to put the Minister on the spot over the closure plans. Andrew received assurances from the Minister that nothi...

Local MP Andrew Percy has taken up the fight on behalf of disabled users of the new toilet facilities at Estcourt Street. The new toilet have been criticised by wheelchair users for a string of failures, making them unusable to many disabled people. Andrew and Cllr Caroline Fox met Goole resident Sharon Sanderson at the toilets on Saturday afternoon to see the problems for themselves. Andrew Percy MP says, “It’s important to remain positive about these new toilets as the facilities a...
