Upcoming Recruitment Opportunities at Keadby 2 Power Station

Andrew raised the issue of maximising recruitment for local people at the Keadby 2 power station with Siemens, who are building the power station in our constituency, and has received the below update.

Andrew reports, "The Keadby 2 project is a £350 million investment by SSE to introduce first-of-a-kind, high efficiency gas-fired generation technology to the UK. It will be constructed as a full turnkey solution by Siemens, along with a plant servicing contract for 15 years. Around 700 job opportunities will be created during construction with 65 permanent roles then needed during operation.

"Siemens have assured me that they are committed to maximising the number of employment opportunities for local workers, as they have done with other recent investments such as their wind turbine blade factory in Hull.

"Together with SSE, Siemens hosted a successful ‘Meet the Buyer’ event in December and have developed a substantial local supplier base for a range of goods and services. Significant work packages have already been awarded to two local SMEs, and, so far, 80% of contracts have been awarded to UK firms, with 20% of those going to companies local to Keadby.

"They have now begun tendering for several major sub-contracts and expect this work to begin later this year into spring 2020. The employment opportunities from these work packages will be advertised over the coming months. As part of this, they will require any non-local companies that successfully tender to supplement their core workforce, where needed, via the Job Centre Plus in Scunthorpe. The latter will be the main hub for all Keadby 2 related recruitment.

"Siemens have reiterated to me that they, and their subcontractors, want to create a positive legacy in the region from this project, in the same way that they have done with the wind turbine blade facility in Hull.

"As always, I will continue to keep you updated with further developments on this project and the other fantastic projects in our area."
