Andrew joined the recent Steel Support Group meeting at the Department for Business to discuss British Steel.
Andrew reports, "Weekly Steel Support Group meetings are now taking place with regards to the on-going issues at British Steel. These meetings are chaired by the Secretary of State and include Union reps, local MPs, local Councils, Local Enterprise Partnerships, industry representatives, senior civil servants and representatives of the Official Receiver etc etc.
"The most recent of these took place this past Monday and I was happy to attend. We heard an update on some of the interested parties presently undertaking visits to the site at Scunthorpe as they consider whether or not to offer to buy the business. Clearly, the details of these interests and parties is highly confidential so there isn't a great deal that can be said at this stage.
"The purpose of the Support Group is to ensure that everybody continues to work together to try to secure a future for this industry and to ensure that all interested parties are in close communication. The next meeting will take place in Doncaster this coming Monday.
"There isn't a great deal I can say about what is and isn't discussed but I thought residents would appreciate knowing that these meetings are taking place."
