South Ferriby Flood Defence Works Update

Andrew visited South Ferriby this afternoon to officially dig the first sod for the new flood defences. He was joined by councillors Helen Rowson, Carl Sherwood, Rob Waltham and Nigel Sherwood, along with representatives of the Environment Agency and the project’s contractors.

Andrew reports, "This is a £12m project, of which £7.5m has come from the Government. Additionally, Cemex and the Conservative-run North Lincolnshire council have also contributed to the project.

"These are much-needed works, which I, and the councillors mentioned above, have been fighting for ever since the tidal surge of 2013, which devastated parts of the village. It has taken some time to come to fruition, but we got there in the end.

"We understand that there will be some inconvenience, but, as mentioned above, these are much-needed flood prevention works for the village.

"Work will start next month and will take around 2 years to complete. As ever, I will keep residents updated as the project progresses."
