Rawcliffe Bridge River Crossing

As some residents may be aware, I have shared residents’ concerns regarding the weight limit in place on the river crossing at Rawcliffe Bridge. Due to the safety concerns, the Council had little option but to impose the 3.5 tonnes limit, but I have continued to press for action to repair the bridge.

Residents will be relieved to learn that the Council has now gone out to tender for a contractor to undertake repairs that will enable the bridge to carry vehicles of up to 44 tonnes, controlled by permanent traffic signals. The East Riding Council inform me that they plan to appoint a contractor within days and that the contractor is likely to be a local company, meaning that the value of the works will benefit the local economy and local jobs.

I was originally informed that work would commence on site in March to repair the weakened bridge. However, following a delay in the tendering process I am advised that work should begin around the end of April/ early May. Whilst the work is being undertaken, the bridge will be closed to all traffic as it would not be safe to do so with vehicles travelling on the bridge. During this time, a diversion route will be in place for all vehicles.

I will continue to press for the work to be completed and I will keep residents updated as soon as I receive further information. If you wish to discuss this or any other matter, please email me directly or call my Goole constituency office to speak with my Senior Constituency Caseworker, Liz Sargeantson.
