New Online Safety Assemblies for Local Schools

Andrew has provided an update from Google and Parent Zone regarding a new initative they have launched for local schools.

Andrew explains, "I recently mentioned my previous work with Google and Parent Zone on online safety for young people along with their Be Internet Legends programme which I brought to schools in our area.

"I am pleased to report that Google and Parent Zone have put together a brand new series of interactive online safety assemblies, taking place in the autumn term.

"I am informed that these online assemblies are part of the Be Internet Legends programme, designed to help 7-11 year-old pupils become safer and more confident explorers of the online world. The programme includes a digital curriculum and fun, interactive assemblies that are delivered both face-to-face and online.""

Developed in close collaboration with experts, children and schools, Be Internet Legends focuses on five internet safety pillars:

• Being Sharp about what they share

• Being Alert to scams and phishing attacks

• Being Secure by creating strong passwords and looking after their personal information

• Being Kind to others online

• Being Brave by talking to trusted adults when they come across something they’re not sure about.

The programme is delivering five livestream assemblies in the autumn term for all UK primary schools. Each assembly is interactive, covers a fresh theme and can be shared with parents to watch from home.

Tuesday 14th September, Back to School Assembly Kicking off the new school term by looking at positive behaviours in class and online.

Thursday 21st and Tuesday 26th September, Interland Assembly Explore an online world and learn about skills and habits to keep pupils safer.

Thursday 12th October, Wellbeing Assembly Discussing screen use and how being online makes us feel – with ideas to help pupils find a healthy balance.
