M62 Ouse Bridge – Closures

Andrew has received further details from National Highways regarding the next phase of works and closures on the M62 Ouse Bridge.

Andrew reports, "Weather permitting, the following will take place next week:

  • "Monday 25 September overnight from 8:00pm to 5:00am – full closure of both eastbound and westbound M62 between J36 and J37. I am informed this is to allow access to the central reservation and verges to divert the anemometer located on the bridge. They will also use this time to survey cross-carriageway ducts for potential future works.

  • "Tuesday 26 September to Friday 29 September - overnight eastbound closures from 8:00pm to 5:00am. All eastbound traffic will be diverted to enable work on both sides of the central reservation. This includes removing now diverted cables, duct clearing, and CCTV surveys.

  • "Thursday 28 September, 11:00pm, until Monday 2 October, 5:00am - the dedicated eastbound exit lane at J37 will be closed due to a concrete pour scheduled for Friday 29 September, which will form new concrete ‘nibs’ for the half joints in the eastbound hardshoulder and lane one.

"National Highways have explained that they have been recording the effects of the traffic on the eastbound carriageway for a number of weeks to establish whether a closure would be necessary for the concrete pour and, unfortunately, they have no option but to close the lane. This will avoid settlement of the concrete due to the vibration of the traffic.

"Furthermore, I am told the length of the closure for the concrete pour depends on the concrete achieving its required strength and there is therefore a possibility the lane can be reopened sooner than Monday 2nd.

"The next changes to the current traffic management are expected in early 2024 when National Highways will switch the current lane three on the eastbound carriageway to the hardshoulder. The overall project completion is anticipated for June 2024.

"As ever, I will make sure to keep residents updated."*
