Lower Aire Flooding Update

Andrew has provided the following update on the Lower Aire.

Andrew reports, "As residents will know, I have continued to meet regularly with the EA and others to push for action on the commitments made following those floods. I met again with the EA last week for an update on their work and to express my concerns and those of residents about the time it is taking to get to the next stage of this process. That next step is the completion of the river modelling work which is vital to providing the evidential base for any changes or improvements to the defences or the way that the river is managed.

"It is very frustrating that, due to the complexity and length of the river catchment, this work is taking longer than expected. I expressed my frustration at this delay in my meeting this week. The reality is though that this work is vital and necessary if we are going to attract funding for any changes or improvements required and I am told it should be completed shortly.

"We have secured considerable government funding in recent years to strengthen the defences and about £13 million to repair the damaged defences. However, I am committed to securing further action to ensure we are protected into the future.

"I am attaching the latest EA update to this post. Rest assured, I will be continuing to push this issue."
