Funding for High Street and Town Centre Cleaning

The Government has announced £9.75 million of extra funding to help clean up our high streets and town centres.

Andrew explains, "Local authorities will be given this cash immediately to spend on equipment and training, which will be used to support volunteers. The money will pay for litter pickers, gloves and brushes, along with providing training on graffiti removal or how to tackle fly-tipping. I understand that in North Lincolnshire we have 80 volunteer litter picking groups."

Andrew adds, "Additionally, the Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British Spring Clean Campaign will run between 22 March to 23 April this year. The Great British Spring Clean, which is the country’s biggest mass-participation environmental campaign, encourages communities to get together to clean litter in their local area."

This funding also follows the Government's £675 million Future High Streets Fund, which will improve infrastructure and access to high streets, put historic buildings back to use and make town centres fit for the future.
