Environment Agency Meeting

DSCF2402I had a fairly long discussion with the Environment Agency on Friday to discuss what seemed to be pretty much every river and flood protection issue in the constituency. In particular we discussed the future of the Isle of Axholme Flood Risk Management Strategy. Following our long campaign, supported by the drainage board, we managed to get the protection policy for the Isle upgraded recently but we still need more assurances.

I also discussed the Aire and Ouse Flood Catchment Plans and the on-going concerns at Snaith. We all remember the Environment Agency's original proposals for the area which, following the campaign I led with Cllr Caroline Fox and the Town Council, we managed to force them to review! I will be meeting again with the Environment Agency to discuss this in more detail too. Snaith is lucky to have such hard working Councillors who seem to be genuinely appreciated by local people.

We finished with a discussion about the Lincolnshire Lakes proposal and chat about the River Ancholme in Brigg. Another one of our successful campaigns of course was the tidying up of the Ancholme which I am pleased to say the Environment Agency recently visited to cut the weeds back.
