EE/ BT Group – Broughton Mobile Coverage Update

Residents may remember that Andrew conducted a survey on mobile coverage and broadband in Broughton last year, which was used to raise the issue of poor service in the area with the providers.

After the survey report was sent to the providers last year, O2, who share infrastructure with Vodafone, had informed Andrew that they would undertake works to improve 4G coverage in Broughton and EE/BT Group also informed him that they were constructing a new mast site in the town. Andrew chased the providers again for further updates and has received the following response from EE/BT Group on the installation of their new mobile phone mast in Broughton.

Andrew reports, "I have been informed that the site for the mast was confirmed and the build of the mast itself, with associated power equipment, has now been completed. The need for a new wayleave agreement to connect the site to the rest of the mobile network caused some delay to the process; however, they have confirmed that the agreement has now been reached and was recently signed.

"As a result of this wayleave being agreed, their fibre supplier (Openreach) is currently installing the necessary civil infrastructure and fibre to connect the site, which they expect to be completed within the next week or so. Once the fibre is installed, the site installation of the active equipment and then their normal testing and commissioning process of the complete build will be completed prior to the site being brought into service.

"They expect the site to be up and running from mid-June, assuming the remaining install and testing goes to plan.

"Thank you again to the residents who completed the survey as this ensured that we had a detailed and thorough report to raise with the providers. As ever, I will keep residents informed of further progress."
