Drowning Prevention Week 2019

Drowning Prevention Week, which was created by the Royal Life Saving Society UK and is being supported by the Department for Education, will be running between 14 - 24 June.

Andrew says, "This national campaign aims to ensure everyone knows how to have fun and stay safe near water.

"More than 700 people drown in the UK and Ireland every year, around one person every 10 hours, and many more suffer injury, sometimes life-changing, when they survive drowning."

You can follow these simple precautions to stay safe:

* Stop and think – look for the dangers, always read the signs

* Stay together – never swim alone. Always go with friends or family

* In an emergency: Call 999 or 112 and shout for help

* Float – if you fall in, float or swim on your back. Throw something in that floats to anyone that falls in.
