Crowle Flood & Drainage Improvements

Andrew took part in a further update meeting to discuss the £7 million project to improve drainage and reduce flooding in Crowle and Ealand.

Andrew reported on Facebook,

I had another update meeting with local Councillors, Severn Trent, North Lincs Council and the Drainage Board this morning regarding the £7 million works to improve drainage and reduce flooding in Crowle and Ealand.

We now have the funding in place to deliver these improvements which will be made up of three distinct schemes. These are now all being designed up and finalised with some preparatory works already underway. Most of the work wont really start until early next year, in part to avoid disruption over Christmas.

The works are very substantial and will take some time to complete and there will be disruption. The Council is also working with KCOM who are installing full gigabit fibre in Crowle to ensure that they do this ahead of works.

Myself and Councillors Julie Reed and John Briggs have worked closely with partners to get to this point. It has taken a flipping long time, but we now have the funding and schemes in place to bring these improvements.

These are substantial works and will take quite some time to deliver but they are much needed. The three schemes broadly are –

Highway Scheme Godnow Road

This £1.6 million investment by North Lincs Conservative-run Council will see the carriageway and highway drains rebuilt alongside new footpaths, gullies, streetlights etc. The works tie in with the Severn Trent works in so far as a new sewer will also be laid in preparation for that scheme. This will take up to a year.

Some of the prep work is already underway and the Kitchen’s land on the corner will be used, where a pathway to Potts Lane will also be constructed. This land will serve as a secure compound and will be for residents to park in as works are completed in sections on Godnow Road. The added benefit is that this piece of land will be tidied up and new fencing constructed on the High Street boundary. The highway works will take up to a year, with works starting in January next year.

Severn Trent Scheme

We now have all the approvals for this major £5 million upgrade by Severn Trent. The work to the sewage treatment works is already underway which will increase the capacity in preparation for the larger sewers which are to be installed. The design for the rest of the system upgrade is now being finalised.

The next phase which will come in 2022-23 includes sewer upgrades across the area including at Windsor Lane, Wharfe Road, Godnow Road, Axholme Avenue etc as well new pumping stations in Ealand and on Windsor Crescent.

Internal Drainage Board - Wray's Drain

The final piece of the jigsaw comes from the Drainage Board who hope to obtain approval for a £450k scheme to improve land drainage in the area and reduce the flows that come through Crowle. The hope is final approval on funding will come in October.

If successful, this will see water that presently comes through Crowle diverted around it and managed better to reduce flood risk.
