Canal and River Trust Meeting

Andrew provided the following update after his recent meeting with the Canal and River Trust in Parliament.

Andrew said, "I met the Canal and Rivers Trust in Parliament recently as part of their 10 years as a charity charged with the guardianship of England's canals.

"Goole of course is a town that only exists today because of the Victorian canal system which created the Aire and Calder Canal Company and ultimately created modern Goole.

"My ancestors were some of the earliest residents to settle in what was then a company town, working as labourers on the new docks. As such, I've always felt a bit of an affinity to the canal network.

"I met with the Canal and Rivers Trust and pledged support for their work preserving the heritage of our canals. I also of course reminded them that that heritage also means continuing to support our canals as working canals and not just for pleasure. "
