Brigg Raft and Heritage Centre 10 Year Anniversary!

Andrew visited the Brigg Heritage Centre on Friday to celebrate it's 10 year anniversary.

Andrew reports, "It was a delight to spend Friday evening at the Brigg Heritage Centre to celebrate a decade since we opened this centre and brought the historic Brigg Raft back to the town!

"The idea for the Heritage Centre came from Cllr Rob Waltham and we all worked together to secure the funding to create it as part of our plan to regenerate Brigg and promote the heritage of our area.

"Since then an amazing group of trustees, volunteers and the centre manager have kept this facility going from strength to strength, even through the tough Covid time.

"Brigg and the Acholme Valley has such a rich history which we are proud to display. As well as displaying the Brigg Raft, the centre also has displays on the area's role in the Civil War, World War 2 and of course displays on the unique drainage of the area plus much more besides.

"It barely seems like yesterday since Cllr Rob Waltham and Cllr Carl Sherwood popped into parliament on their way back from visiting the National Maritime Museam in Greenwich to negotiate the return of the Brigg Raft. In fact, Rob turned up with a backpack and I thought the raft might have been in that!

"As I come to the end of my time serving as MP for our area, it is nice to spend time celebrating some of the things we helped to deliver in my first term.

"It was lovely to see old friends on Friday and for me to be able to thank everyone who has been involved in the Heritage Centre over the years. To each and everyone, thank you so much for what you do for our town.

"Most amazing of all though, I don't look a day older than I did when I opened the centre back in 2013! It's a miracle!"
