Bloody Good Period Drop-in Event

Andrew attended the Bloody Good Period Drop-in Event in Parliament this week.

Following the meeting, Andrew said, "It was great to pop in to the Bloody Good Period drop-in event this week in Parliament. I broadly support many of the campaign’s aims, particularly the ending of period poverty.

"I would also encourage employers and local authorities to make period products available to their staff and service users. As the campaign pointed out to me, employees are not normally asked to bring toilet paper to work.

"Following the meeting, I did make contact with the leaders of both of our councils, Cllr Rob Waltham and Cllr Anne Handley, to start work with them on expanding the availability of period products in council buildings, leisure centres, libraries etc. Rob and Anne, agreed to work further on this, with both councils having already gone so far.

"As an employer myself, I am also committed to make period products available to my staff, and others who visit my office, if required.

"Finally, the Bloody Good Period team conducted research on this matter by taking feedback from over 3000 respondents — both employers and employees — to understand how periods affect people in work.

"They found that periods are typically challenging in the workplace: 'In the majority of workplaces, many people are navigating menstrual shame and access to products, which can have a real effect on people's workplace wellbeing and professional success.'"'
