Azuma trains will be operating the East Coast Main Line from the 15th May this year as part of the £5.7bn Government-led Intercity Express Programme. These new trains will serve the London to Leeds route, with Hull being served shortly too.
Andrew says, "I am delighted that at long last we are getting new trains on the East Coast Main line. Frankly, local rail users have had to put up with slower and poorer services for too long. This is a positive announcement and one that will be welcomed by people who use these services from Doncaster and elsewhere.
"These new trains will have up-to-date facilities on board and more spacious carriages with slightly shorter journey times to boot. The improvements include improved Wi-Fi, every seat having its own power socket and 7cm of additional leg-room. Throughout this year we will also see new or refurbished trains serving the Northern Rail and Transpennine Express routes too.
"This should mean the end to the pesky pacer trains too, trains that should very definitely not have survived into this century!"
