Andrew Supports New Smoking Cessation Counselling Service

DSCF0130_1_Local MP Andrew Percy has written to the local NHS to support the creation of a new smoking cessation service in the Goole and Snaith area. The need has been identified by NHS East Riding of Yorkshire in a Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment consultation document. The Primary Care Trust are required to produce a Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment so as to establish where there is unmet need.

Andrew says, “The draft needs assessment is out for consultation in August and September and I have taken part in the consultation by writing in support of the need for more smoking cessation services in our area. The document explains that there is an unmet need for these services in the Goole and Snaith area and says that the PCT may consider commissioning a counselling service locally.

Life expectancy in much of our area is below the East Riding average and we all know how much of a factor smoking can be in this. That is why I would support any new services that would help support people who are trying to kick the habit. This is not about nannying people, it is about supporting those who want to quit in much more rounded way.

I have made my views known to NHS East Riding of Yorkshire and I look forward to their conclusions.”
