Andrew Secures Play Park Funding

Brigg and Goole MP Andrew Percy is celebrating after helping to secure over £590,000 from the new Government to support the creation of 5 play parks across the Brigg and Goole constituency. The funding has been secured following a review of PlayBuilder funding announced in July. North Lincolnshire is one of only two Councils to have come out of the review with its funding allocation untouched. Andrew Percy fought hard to secure the funding, meeting personally with Ministers and raising it twice on the floor of the House of Commons.

Andrew Percy says, "I am delighted that I have been able to help secure this funding for our local parks. It has been a hard fought campaign and I thank those involved in our local schemes for supporting my efforts so strongly. As soon as the review was announced back in July, I immediately made representations to the Department of Education before raising it in person with Secretary of State, Michael Gove MP. I made clear to Michael that so much work had gone into our local schemes already by volunteers that we really needed the funding to be protected. I also pointed out to Michael that these schemes really were the 'Big Society' in action!

Michael assured me that he would look into our local case personally and he was good enough to follow this up with further discussions over the summer. I also raised the issue on the floor of the House of Commons twice and I am therefore delighted that all this effort has paid off. We are very lucky to have emerged from this process with all out money in tact and it just goes to prove how committed the new Government is to our local area."
