Andrew Joins Police on Patrol

Andrew is nearing the completion of his Police Parliamentary Scheme. Under this scheme, MPs volunteer to give up twenty days undertaking front line shifts with the police. Andrew has so far gone out with Neighbourhood Policing Teams, undertaken night shifts with the Public Order and Incident Response Team, and most recently worked with the dogs section and the Humberside Police helicopter.

Andrew gave up last weekend to undertake a shift with the helicopter, based at Humberside airport, and on Sunday he joined traffic police working out of Brigg.

Andrew says, “The idea of this scheme is to ensure that MPs have a better understanding of the pressures and realities of front line policing. This past weekend I had the pleasure of joining two of the faster moving units of Humberside Police. The helicopter unit was really interesting, even if I am not a big fan of helicopters and did feel a little queasy!

“My Sunday shift with the Traffic Police was also fast-paced and very interesting, and I am grateful to Graham, Traffic Officer, who agreed to let me join him on shift. I am nearing the completion of my twenty days and I will quite miss giving up my weekends joining our excellent police out and about on patrol.”
