400+ More Jobs for Goole Area

Andrew was in Goole earlier today to welcome the announcement of further jobs in the local area.

Andrew explains, "Fantastic news today for the Goole area with an announcement that Finnish tissue products manufacturer, Metsa Tissue, have picked the Goole area as the site of their first UK manufacturing facility.

This investment runs to hundreds of millions of pounds and will create 400+ plus direct jobs at the site and many more in the supply chain and during construction. I met with Metsa a few months ago to discuss what we can do to ensure local people are the first in line for these roles. This is a major foreign investment into the UK and will reduce the UK's reliance on imports. The facility aims to be carbon neutral. The site chosen is alongside the motorway on Rawcliffe Road, just up from Glews and a full planning application will be needed. I've also spoken with Metsa about ensuring there is appropriate screening, tree planting and environmental enhancements which they support.

None of this happens by accident and a big draw for Metsa to our area is the fact that the site is a 'Freeport' site bringing investment incentives. A policy championed by Rishi Sunak.

As I depart as our MP next year I will be forever proud that through hard work the mess we inherited in relation to the Goole 36 site back then has been resolved and is now, thanks to millions of pounds of investment from our government, one of the most attractive investment sites nationally!

More importantly, this is for the benefit of local people who will now have on their doorstep thousands of new well paying jobs and opportunities not seen locally in generations. I will be working with Metsa closely and thank them for their investment and confidence in the Goole area."

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said, “Metsä Tissue’s investment is good for Yorkshire, good for our economy and good for sustainability. This announcement is another example of the UK being the first choice for European investment and delivers on my commitment to grow the economy, creating better-paid job."*
