And Yet Still They Deny the Deficit...

And Yet Still They Deny the Deficit...

I was struck by this graph which really puts into context the state of the finances Labour left behind. The fact we are spending more on debt every day than we do on the Police, Justice System and Care for the Elderly combined, really does show just what a shocking state the public finances are in. That is why the Government is having to take some pretty unpopular decisions.   Labour and their Union paymasters really should get with the real world and start to accept some ownership of the mess...

North Axholme Bus Surgery

North Axholme Bus Surgery

I had a great day today with  Cllr John Briggs and Andrew Singleton on my mobile bus surgery which visited Crowle, Eastoft, Luddington, Garthorpe, Amcotts, Keadby and Ealand. It was really successful with people queuing up at Amcotts and Keadby to meet us. Some came just to say what a good idea it was and how they had never had anything like this before. Same comments as when we did the bus surgery in the Snaith area. However, the day did start with the most bizarre piece of political spite I'...

Over £3.4 Million for Pothole Repairs

Over £3.4 Million for Pothole Repairs

I have just learnt that next week the Coalition Government will be giving our local Councils over £3.4m in total to repair potholes caused by the extreme winter weather we experienced.   This fantastic news comes as a result of the Government’s decision in yesterday's Budget to double pothole funding to local authorities.   East Riding will get £2,420,849 and North Lincolnshire will receive £1,018,517. This is more than double the amount the last Government gave to North Lincs. No doubt North ...

Grandparent's Rights Lobby

Grandparent's Rights Lobby

This afternoon I spoke at the Grandparents’ Association Lobby of Parliament which was hosted by my colleague Penny Mordaunt, MP for Portsmouth North.   I spoke about the Ten Minute Rule Motion which I brought in last November which intends to give grandparents and grandchildren more rights of access to each other. The date for the second reading of this bill is June 17th 2011.   There was a Q&A after I spoke which threw up some interesting perspectives on where to go from where we are at p...

Backing the Peoples’ Pledge for an EU Referendum

Backing the Peoples’ Pledge for an EU Referendum

Today I backed the Peoples’ Pledge which is a cross party campaign to get MPs to pledge to vote for a referendum on European Union membership. It’s a huge campaign with cross party support.   I have made my position very clear; I would vote for a referendum and would vote to leave the EU in that referendum. I have spoken out on several occasions in the House of Commons against the EU who seem hell bent on imposing their will on the British people. So far I have voted; against European Economic...

Isle of Axholme Shopper Bus

Isle of Axholme Shopper Bus

The Isle of Axholme Shoppers Bus is a service that costs a mere £13,000 per year to run yet Labour Councillors are proposing to remove it. Just this weekend we saw how thousands of pounds has been claimed by Labour Councillors on sandwiches and they continue to employ party political support at the Council costing thousands yet they apparently can’t afford to run this bus service for local residents.   Along with local Conservatives I have been backing a campaign against the removal of the ser...

Andrew Calls for Fuel Duty Stabiliser

Andrew Calls for Fuel Duty Stabiliser

Brigg and Goole MP, Andrew Percy, today urged the Government to implement a fuel duty stabiliser in the forthcoming budget and to take action to help limit the impact of rising fuel prices locally.   Andrew said: “Motorists find themselves paying ever higher prices at the pump. It is especially serious for those of us living in rural areas, where cars are essential, either for getting to work, doing the weekly shop, or even enjoying a weekend out with the family.”   And he added: “Small busine...
