Snaith and Cowick Flooding Update

Andrew has provided the below update regarding flooding in Snaith and Cowick on his Facebook page.

I had a useful briefing with the Environment Agency (EA) earlier today to update me on the Snaith and Cowick flooding issue. I’ve summarised some bullet points below, but residents can rest assured that I am continuing to prioritise this issue and will continue to do so.

In summary:

1The EA are engaging with the formal section 19 inquiry which is being led by East Riding. This inquiry will take several months but I thank residents who have shared videos/ photographs from the flooding with the council so that it can be considered as part of the inquiry.

2They’ve completed all the temp repairs to the secondary defence banks and further permanent repairs will be made in the coming months.

3They have restructured to establish a dedicated Lower Aire resource within the EA to look at the future investment options for our area.

4They have also established a strong working relationship with the Internal Drainage Board (IDB) to look at medium to long-term improvements. The IDB did a brilliant job of digging a new relief channel which may well be part of any resilience in the future.

5The EA will also be producing a newsletter for effected communities shortly to keep residents updated.

I can assure residents that I will continue to engage with all of the relevant agencies involved in this issue and do all I can to secure us long-term solutions and protection. As ever, I will be sure to provide further updates when I receive them.
