An absolute out of the blue surprise last night to receive a wonderful call from Mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, to once again thank Goole for all of the work we have done providing ambulances for Ukraine.
I'd just finished weeding my garden when I noticed a missed call from Victor, who is a UK based Ukrainian businessman who has helped fund the ambulances. I called and Victor asked me to switch to whatsapp video call.
There he was with Vitali and his brother Wladimir who both wanted to pass on their thanks to the guys at O&H Venari in Goole and all the others involved in the project. The Mayor again said how moved he was by the support from the UK and how Goole's ambulances are helping to save lives at the front.
He also assured me he would be reaching out to the factory again to personally say thanks.
I was a bit ill prepared and a bit muddy and sweaty from gardening but I did my best to say how honoured we are as a community to be building these ambulances and how amazing the whole team at the factory have been.
I really hope one day we can welcome Vitali to the town.
