Goole-Snaith-Leeds Line Update

Andrew has provided the following update on the Goole-Snaith-Leeds

Andrew explained on Facebook; "As residents may remember, one of the projects we have included in the £25 million Government Town Deal for Goole is a potential hourly/two-hourly regular service on this much underused line.

"Unlike the Leisure Centre, VPG and Town Centre projects contained within the £25 million Town Deal, the rail service improvements is going to be more complicated to deliver as it requires approvals from other partners and will need additional funding. However, I and the Board are doing all we can to get this into a deliverable project.

"With that in mind, myself and East Riding Council officers met with Northern Rail, the West Yorkshire Mayor and her officers yesterday to try to move the project forward.

"Most of the line of course is outside of the East Riding so to deliver these improvements we need strong buy in from the other partners and, of course, financial commitments from them to the project, as we are providing thanks to the Government funding.

"Everyone is in agreement that these improvements are needed and will benefit the public by improving connections and opening up employment opportunities to residents in both directions.

"We are on a very tight timeframe to get agreements in place to deliver this within the Town Deal framework and we made this clear to the other partners yesterday.

"The meeting was positive but A LOT of work now needs to be done in the next few weeks if we are going to unlock the Town Deal funding for the project. If not, there will remain other funding opportunities and the project wouldn't grind to a halt (excuse the pun). The Town Deal funding we have allocated in principle would then be used for other schemes in the town.

"However, the fact we have Government funding available now from Town Deal for this is an opportunity I don't want us to miss. We now need the other partners to come to the table with some firm commitments so we can move this on! I shall keep pushing."
