Conservatives Will Protect Port Jobs

Andrew Percy and local businesses operating on the docks in Goole have welcomed a Conservative commitment to scrap collection of Labour's disastrous port taxes if elected. The back dated taxes threatened hundreds of jobs in the Goole area and were imposed by the Labour government without consultation with port businesses.

Now the Conservatives have pledged a moratorium on the collection of these taxes, an investigation into the role of the Valuation Office in this process and to work with the industry to find a way forward.

Andrew says, "For months we have been pleading with the Labour Government to intervene and do something about the appalling mess they have allowed to go unresolved. Even at this late stage we must not abandon hope that they will come to their senses and announce something.

I joined Shadow Minister Bob Neill MP and Goole port business owners, David Johnson and Nick Green, at Immingham docks to hear Bob once again reiterate the Conservative's commitment to halting the process and protecting local jobs."
