Brigg Royal British Legion and Goole Car Parking

Most of this week has been spent planning for the next few weeks and getting stuff ready. It's been a bit difficult though as I have picked up quite a bad throat from school. It seems to be on its way out though now, a bit like Labour!

Last night I had the pleasure of attending the inaugural meeting of the Brigg branch of the Royal British Legion. It was quite funny really as the Chairman and I grew up in neighbouring streets in Hull. I am also now a proud member for this new branch!

I also went to a car park charges meeting in Goole on Monday which was organised by local business owners. Whilst there was a lot of opposition to the charges, much of this centred around the free period which will be available. Cllr Matthew Grove, who attended from the East Riding Council, made clear though that this could be negotiated on.

It was a good meeting with plenty of issues aired but I am still holding out that before the charges come in in 2011, the East Riding Council will see sense and abandon the proposals. I expect to see quite a few changes in the East Riding in the coming months, hopefully for the better!

I also had the pleasure of meeting my Lib Dem opponent for the election, Richard Nixon (Pictured with Goole Lib Dem Cllr Jean Kitching). The Lib Dems locally play it with a pretty straight bat and so we dont expect the same level of bile and personal nastiness as that which is coming our way from Labour. Richard seems a decent guy and I look forward to running into him on the campaign trail.
