Households across North Lincolnshire will be receiving information cards in the coming weeks as part of a campaign to crack-down on scammers.
Andrew explains, "These cards urge residents to stop and think before making payments over the phone, online, or to doorstep traders. Before making any payments, the easy-to-follow cards encourage people to:
-
Stop – taking a moment to stop and think before parting with your money or information could keep you safe
- Challenge – could it be fake? It’s ok to reject, refuse or ignore any requests. Only criminals will try to rush or panic you
- Protect – contact your bank immediately if you think you’ve fallen for a scam and report it to Action Fraud.
"The first wave sees more than 40,000 cards distributed to rural communities.
"This initiative follows on from the Trade Watch campaign that was previously launched by North Lincolnshire Council in conjunction with Humberside Police, which sought to protect residents from unscrupulous door to door sellers."
