Andrew Presents Rural Fair Share Petition to Parliament

Andrew recently presented his Rural Fair Share petition to the House of Commons which was signed by nearly 1,000 local residents. The petition calls for a fairer Local Government Finance Settlement for rural councils such as the East Riding and North Lincs. Urban areas currently get 50% additional support per head than rural areas, even though there are higher costs associated with delivering services in rural communities.

The unfair finance settlement is a historic overhang which the petition and Rural Fair Share campaign is seeking to resolve.

Andrew Percy says, “It’s not right that people in rural areas who earn less on average than those in big cities and pay more council tax are disadvantaged by this historic funding problem.  I had a huge response to my petition which I have now formally presented to the House of Commons. I hope that Ministers will now agree to take the views of local people on board and fix this historic unfairness in the funding settlement for rural communities. I will continue to pursue this important issue to make sure we get a fairer settlement for local people.”
