4R Environment Agency Permit

Andrew has provided the below update on the on-going environmental permit for the 4R waste centre at Swinefleet.

Andrew explained on Facebook:

I met with the Environment Agency this week - via Zoom of course - to discuss the on-going environmental permit for the 4R waste centre at Swinefleet.

The Council recently granted planning permission but this has not been confirmed yet as the Secretary of State is considering taking the application off the Council to determine himself.

However, as well as planning permission, the applicants also require an environmental permit which has to be granted by the Environment Agency.

I met the EA this week for an update on this application and to once again express my concerns on behalf of residents. The Agency told me that they have yet to make a decision and are still considering the application.

If they are minded to approve it, this would then start off another consultation before that decision is confirmed.

One blow was being told by the EA that the site's proximity to the SSI Humberhead Peatlands and Moors site was not a relevant consideration as apparently the site is located outside of the legal limits for that to be considered! Apparently, the distances are set out in law.

Nevertheless, we must continue to push against the granting of this permit and I shall keep residents updated.
