A Bustling Bank Holiday

A Bustling Bank Holiday

A busy bank holiday weekend for the team and I as we seemed to be all over the constituency. Saturday started by a quick visit to a coffee morning in Bonby in aid of the local church after which I went and caught up with the team in Brigg who were busy delivering. Some of the regulars couldn't do their rounds due to holidays, so after a quick ring round on Friday we ended up with about 15 people out to leaflet. This meant we were finished much more quickly then I planned so I went over t...

River Ancholme Clean Up Begins!!!

River Ancholme Clean Up Begins!!!

Despite the consensus that the River needs clearing, little real action seems to have occurred so we decided to take to the water ourselves and remove the litter and rubbish ourselves. The first effort saw us clear from Millennium Green to about 50 yards beyond County Bridge. That cleared 6 large bags mainly full of discarded beer cans, bottles, take-away cartons and even a red power ranger!   The crew returned again last Sunday and removed a further 9 bags, clearing a bit further up toward...

Wrawby Show and Bonby Bowls

Wrawby Show and Bonby Bowls

Today was a really busy day. It started in Epworth where we were door knocking to ask people's issues. Lots of people wanted to engage with us and when it came to people's voting intentions, I've rarely seen such a positive response. Then I popped along to the Wrawby Show where I have apparently won some wine in the raffle. Sadly, I couldn't stick around as I had to head to Bonby for the first 'Inter-ward Brigg and Goole Bowling Competition'. Basically, we had a fundraising bowls match wit...

Labour Get Dirty and Use Taxpayers Money - Yet Again!!

Labour Get Dirty and Use Taxpayers Money - Yet Again!!

There are sometimes in politics when you really want to ring up your opponents and offer them some free campaign advice. For the second time in a few weeks Labour have delivered a really nasty leaflet to residents in Burton about the Flixborough Grange Windfarm. This is the windfarm that 5 Labour Councillors voted to give planning permission to. All of the Conservatives voted against it but Labour are apparently opposed to the windfarm!! If they are, we welcome their late conversion.   A...

Humber Bridge Toll Rise Rejected?

Humber Bridge Toll Rise Rejected?

A decision has finally been made on the proposal to raise the Humber Bridge toll from £2.70 to £2.90. The decision has been taken by the Department of Transport but is subject to an embargo until midnight tonight so apparently we can't say anything until then! Personally, I think that is a load of old tosh and people should know the decision asap. However, I'm not what the rules are so I wont say anything more until later for fear that the Department of Transport swoop on me and take me...

NFU Meeting & Scunthorpe Cat Rescue

NFU Meeting & Scunthorpe Cat Rescue

Had a very busy day today with visits to Gunness, Epworth and East Cowick, followed by an evening cup of tea in Airmyn with my neighbour and local Councillor Caroline Fox. Before all of that though I met with Jonathon Brant, Alex Godfrey and Caroline Ellis from the local National Farmers Union (see photo). We had a really good discussion of the various challenges facing the farming community at the moment. We spent quite a lot of time discussing the various form-filling and regulations ...

Troops Welcomed Home to East Yorkshire

Troops Welcomed Home to East Yorkshire

Prospective Brigg & Goole MP, Andrew Percy, and Snaith, Airmyn and Rawcliffe Ward Councillor, Caroline Fox, joined thousands of East Riding residents in welcoming the 1st Battalion of the Yorkshire Regiment to East Yorkshire last week. The battalion has recently completed tours of duties in Iraq and Kosovo and will shortly begin training for deployment to Afghanistan. The ‘homecoming’ parade took place in Beverley where the troops marched through the town before being inspected by the Chair...

Brigg County Bridge Petition Launched

Brigg County Bridge Petition Launched

Your local Conservative team have launched a campaign for improvements and a clean up of County Bridge, Brigg. Andrew has joined Brigg and Wolds Councillors Carl and Nigel Sherwood in calling on residents to support the campaign by signing a petition demanding action.   Brigg and Wolds Councillor, Carl Sherwood, reports, "I have already met with Council officers to discuss this issue and have outlined our view that urgent action is needed to tidy the bridge up. The bridge has become in...

Strawberry Teas, Winterton Show and BBQs

Strawberry Teas, Winterton Show and BBQs

Had a really busy weekend out and about in the constituency. Saturday, I was out canvassing (the results just get better) and then I went to a Strawberry Tea in aid of Gunness pre-school. Everyone was really kind and the event was well attended, meaning that the award winning pre-school will hopefully have raised some money. In the evening I was at a BBQ in Rawcliffe Bridge where the weather held out pretty well. It's so unusual to have a BBQ in Britain without it absolutely throwing it ...

Labour Wind Farm Lies Exposed

Labour Wind Farm Lies Exposed

Have had some very angry residents on from Burton about a leaflet put out by Labour locally regarding the wind farm application at Flixborough Grange. My word have they got it seriously wrong. You shouldn't take local people as fools, especially when many of them have been heavily involved in the campaign against the wind farm. Their lies, just like the local Labour MP's food bill, are whopping. Here are just some of them from the leaflet. Lie 1 'Your Labour team is fighting plans to build...
