Goole Link Road

Goole Link Road

Andrew recently met with the Homes and Communities Agency, who are the Government agency now responsible for the site in the town, to discuss the proposed link road for Goole.   Andrew has been heavily involved in this issue since his election in 2010. He has brought together stakeholders and Ministers a number of times to try to unlock Government funding for the scheme, as well as remove hurdles to the scheme progressing. Whilst there have been no major announcements, there continues to be prog...

Andrew Demands Flood Defence Improvements

Andrew Demands Flood Defence Improvements

Andrew spoke last week in a debate on flooding in the House of Commons.  He has demanded funding for Reedness and South Ferriby flood defences be brought forward. In 1998 the Environment Agency (EA) first highlighted the need for improvements in the defences at Reedness and this was delayed by the EA under the last Government. In 2008 the Humber Flood Management Strategy, which covers the River Ouse, was completed and again identified Reedness and South Ferriby as needing improvements, but there...

Visit to St Norbert's in Crowle

Visit to St Norbert's in Crowle

Last week I visited St Norbert’s School in Crowle to speak to pupils about Vocation Week. We held a Q&A and there were lots of good and enthusiastic questions. I had to try and put them off being an MP in case anyone tried to take me on in a future election! When I informed them not everyone likes MPs, one student did say ‘we like you’. Gold star for that pupil!

Epworth Bells Column

Epworth Bells Column

Andrew's Epworth Bells Column from Thursday 27th February 2013. I've really enjoyed this week in Parliament and seem to have been really busy on a range of interesting issues, ranging from defibrillators to flooding to the need for more 'normal' people in Parliament. Starting with defibrillators, I chaired a meeting of various groups working with Department of Education officials looking at the practicalities and challenges of requiring schools to have defibrillators on site. The groups supporti...

Increased Ambulance Provision for Goole

Goole and the surrounding area is now benefiting from increased Ambulance cover, after changes by Yorkshire Ambulance Service. The changes came into effect this month and have been welcomed Andrew who has worked closely with the Ambulance Service and has repeatedly raised concerns about response times in the Goole area. Previously, there were two double crew ambulances during the day and night, with additional resources during part of the day from Monday – Thursday. However, Goole now has four d...

Opening of the new-look Goole Post Office

Opening of the new-look Goole Post Office

To celebrate the launch of the new-look Goole Post Office, Andrew ‘cut the ribbon’ at an opening ceremony last Friday.  As part of Post Office plans to modernise the network and extend opening hours for customers, the upgraded Goole Post Office at Hedley Court now has six counter positions, a mixture of two traditional screened and three open plan positions plus a Post Office serving point at the retail counter that is available throughout shop opening hours. Customers will also benefit from ext...

Campaign for Improved Mobile Coverage

Andrew is campaigning for increased mobile phone coverage in across the East Riding and North Lincolnshire after concerns were raised by residents on the Isle of Axholme. Andrew  has been informed by O2 that two masts serve 2G coverage to the Isle. O2 were able to assure Andrew that there are plans to upgrade these to 3G and 4G, a more advanced network protocol capable of much faster internet speeds. O2 are looking at starting upgrades towards the end of next year. Andrew has arranged a meeting ...

Epworth Leisure Centre Refurbishment

Andrew was delighted to join local Councillors, Liz Redfern and David Robinson, to officially re-open the Epworth Leisure Centre. The centre recently received an £80k make over, making good on another Conservative pledge locally.  Andrew reports, "We received a number of complaints about the changing facilities which were simply not up to standard. This has all changed with fantastic new changing facilities which were completed as part of the refurbishment.  The gym upstairs has also been refurb...

Broadband East Riding Roll-Out

Local MP Andrew Percy is delighted that thousands of residents in and around Goole are scheduled to be part of the first phase of the Broadband East Riding project. This phase will include Goole, Snaith and Rawcliffe from our area.
