Member of Parliament for Brigg & Goole and the Isle of Axholme

Imagination Library

Andrew has worked locally to set up two Imagination Library schemes in the Brigg and Goole constituency. Andrew runs the Goole and Snaith Imagination Library for children in the East Riding of Yorkshire part of the constituency. He also serves as the Chairman of the North Lincolnshire Imagination Library Board which is run by North Lincs Council.

The Dolly Parton Imagination Library was started by Dolly Parton in her home state of Tennessee with the aim of encouraging parents to read with their children with the hope of increasing literacy rates. The scheme has now spread from America to Canada and then the UK.

In 2023, The Dollywood Foundation celebrated gifting the 200 millionth book in the United States, Canada, UK, Ireland, and Australia, whilst locally the North Lincolnshire Imagination Library celebrated its 10th anniversary. Since launching in 2013, more than 800,000 free books have been delivered to more than 20,000 local children across North Lincolnshire.

Andrew decided to start this exciting project in our area as he felt local children could really benefit from it.

The scheme is entirely free and your child will receive a book every month in the post until their 5th birthday. All of the money to fund this scheme is being raised locally. As well as a contribution from myself I have also received contributions from local businesses and task of raising money will continue.

Goole and Snaith Imagination Library

Andrew raises the majority of the money for this scheme himself and worked with the local Children Centres to identify the children who would most benefit. Please use the form below to sign your child up.

This scheme covers the parts of the constituency within the East Riding of Yorkshire, including Snaith and the Cowicks, Airmyn, Rawcliffe, Pollington, Gowdall and the Marshlands, as well as Goole and Hook.

It costs £25 per-year per-child to deliver these books and, up to now, Andrew has mainly maintained the scheme by his own enterprise. In order to keep the scheme sustainable Andrew has had to create a waiting list to join the scheme and the list of children waiting to sign up for the books is getting longer. Andrew is therefore looking for additional funding to help him make the Goole and Snaith Imagination Library as widely available as possible. For £25, a child receives a book every month, delivered to their home for one year.  Improving literacy and encouraging parents to read with their children is a great opportunity to really make a positive contribution. If you are interested in supporting the Goole and Snaith Imagination Library with any fundraising events or donations please get in touch with Andrew’s Goole constituency office on 01405 767969

North Lincolnshire Imagination Library

Andrew took the idea of the Imagination Library to Conservative-run North Lincolnshire Council who agreed to roll the scheme out to every child across the area. Andrew serves as Chairman of the Board which oversees this roll-out.

The scheme started on the Isle of Axholme and has since been rolled out to the rest of North Lincolnshire. Over 6,000 kids across the area are now signed up.
