Andrew launching the petition
January Update
Despite thousands of people signing our petition against the introduction of parking charges in Brigg, North Lincolnshire's Labour Council decided to go ahead with the charges and continues to refuse to review the situation.
Andrew says, "Communities elsewhere in North Lincs such as Epworth and Barton will now be worrying that they will be next for Labour's parking charges. If we are going to protect our local market towns we need to ensure that they can compete with out of town shopping centres. The Conservatives introduced free parking in Brigg for that very reason and we are now very worried that Brigg's shopkeepers and businesses will now suffer as a result.
Your local Conservative Councillors and I will continue to oppose these parking charges. North Lincs Council is run by Labour Councillors from Scunthorpe and it is clear that they do not understand the needs of rural communities in North Lincolnshire."
Previous updates
Andrew Percy and Brigg Councillors John Berry, Carl Sherwood and Nigel Sherwood were quick off the mark when Labour shockingly announced that they wanted to scrap the free parking, introduced by the Conservatives, in Brigg.
Andrew says, "Scrapping free parking in Brigg will impact negatively on the local economy and could force even more people to choose out-of-town shopping centres.
The Councillors introducing these charges are the same ones the local Labour MP was writing personalised letters urging us to vote for in the recent local elections!
Hundreds of people have already signed the petition and we will do all we can to stop this outrage. We are concerned that Labour will try and extend car parking to places such as Epworth. If you want to add your name to the car parking petition please contact Andrew.
