Scunthorpe Telegraph Column - May 2016

Scunthorpe Telegraph Column - May 2016

I have had one of those nice parliamentary weeks when one of the issues I have been campaigning on finally comes to fruition and success is achieved. This time it was on the matter of tipping and the all too frequent situation which results in business owners retaining customer tips, rather than passing them on to their staff. Some of the big national chains such as Pizza Express have been guilty of this in the past. As readers may remember, I previously tried to introduce legislation, with the ...

Andrew is delighted to report that grassroots sport on the Isle of Axholme recently received a major boost with work starting on the new 3G artificial grass pitch and changing room pavilion at South Axholme Academy. Andrew Welcomes Action on Tipping

Andrew has welcomed the recent announcement that the government has launched a consultation on new plans to bring greater transparency to tipping for workers and consumers. Andrew has been campaigning on this issue for several years, working with a number of other MPs and organisations, including Unite, and even introduced a Bill in Parliament back in September 2014; which sought to require companies to pass tips to staff in full. The new plans to end unfair tipping practices and increase transp...

Humber MPs Flood Meeting

Humber MPs Flood Meeting

Humber MPs met with the Environment Agency this week to discuss progress on the Humber Flood Strategy. The meeting follows a similar meeting with Flood Minister, Rory Stewart MP, in January where the local MPs pushed the case for a 10 year funding settlement for the Humber.  Over £80 million has been committed by the Government to flood defence projects along the Humber and tributary rivers between now and 2020 to support this strategy. In total £350 million is being spent in East Yorkshire and ...

Andrew Welcomes Action to Tackle Nuisance Calls

Andrew Welcomes Action to Tackle Nuisance Calls

Andrew has welcomed new rules which require cold callers to display numbers when calling and face stronger penalties for nuisance calls. Under the new rules, which are intended to crack down on nuisance calls and come into force next month, direct marketing companies must display their numbers so that those they call are able to block them or report nuisance calls to the Information Commissioner. The rules will apply even when the company's call centres are based abroad and mean nuisance callers...

The scheme is designed to protect properties on the Woodlands and works are due to be completed in mid-August. Andrew says, “I lobbied Government for funding for this project and I’m pleased that ...
