Andrew has received some good news from the Burton Community Fibre project regarding the campaign to bring fibre broadband to the final properties in Burton upon Stather.
Andrew explains, "Burton Parish Council and Openreach have now signed the contract to bring fibre broadband to these remaining properties in the village, with fibre optic broadband expected to be available within 12 months.
"Well done to residents and the Parish Council, and to everyone involved, for all their work over the last two years. I was delighted to provide my support for the project and am happy to see that we are almost there."
Please see the below message for further information:
“It is with great pleasure that we write to tell you the contract between Openreach and Burton upon Stather Parish Council, to bring fibre optic broadband to the final properties in our village, has been signed.
“With the support of North Lincolnshire Council staff, our Ward Members, Cllr Elaine Marper, Cllr Ralph Ogg and Cllr Helen Rowson, and our MP, Andrew Percy, we should now have fibre optic broadband available within 12 months.
“Openreach are committed to fulfilling the contract within that timescale, unless issues arise beyond their control. Progress will be monitored by the Parish Council, North Lincolnshire Council and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS).
“We must thank numerous residents who helped us access Government funding for the project, by formally agreeing to buy fibre optic broadband as soon as it is available, and those who offered to do the same if others couldn’t. Without those people, it would have taken us even longer to make progress.
“We first met many of you over two years ago when we instigated this project. It has taken us longer than we hoped to get to this point. There were a number of setbacks for reasons beyond our control. We thank you for bearing with us during this time.
“It is now in the hands of Openreach. We look forward to contacting you again in the not too distant future, with news that we finally have fibre!”
